Tapovan
Panchavati, Nashik
A green riverside grove linked in tradition to the Ramayana, where Lakshmana is said to have stayed.
Tapovan is the wooded area along the Godavari and Kapila confluence. Tradition says Lakshmana performed penance here and that the episode of Shurpanakha took place nearby, giving Nashik its name from 'nasika' (nose). The Kapila-Godavari sangam, small shrines and a garden make it ideal for a gentle evening walk.
