Kalaram Temple
The famous black-stone Ram temple of Panchavati, with a proud history.
Kalaram means 'black Rama'. The temple holds black stone idols of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana and was built in the late 18th century by Sardar Rangrao Odhekar. It is believed to stand near the place where Rama lived during exile.
The temple is also a landmark of social history. In 1930 Dr. B. R. Ambedkar led a satyagraha here for the right of all people to enter the temple.
It is a short walk from Ramkund, so most pilgrims visit both on the same trip.
